The Woman In Black
Selection for the Weekend of
October 27 - 29, 2000
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going to do a special section on
horror movies for Halloween, and WMAL's Victoria Jones was insistent that
I check out this selection, The Woman in Black. It was a great suggestion.
Adrian Rawlings stars as a young lawyer in London, Arthur Kidd. He is an
up-and-coming talent in his firm, but the President doesn't have much faith
in him. Kidd is given a new assignment that could be a turning point in his
career. He has been asked to wrap up the affairs of Mrs. Drablow, the widow
of a rich client. The President usually takes care of the Drablow file, but
he doesn't want to make the trip to the small seaside town. Why not?
Although the assignment will take him away from his young family for about
a week, Kidd accepts and sets off to Crythin Gifford to attend the funeral,
gather all relevant papers and take care of other loose ends. Along the way,
everyone he encounters becomes spooked when he mentions the Drablow name.
Why?
After he arrives in town, he keeps seeing a mysterious woman dressed all
in black.
What does she want? Why is everyone else afraid of her?
Everyone is afraid of her because she is freaky! In this day of high tech
makeup, the woman in black frightens the strongest souls with a simple pale
face and evil eyes. Pauline Moran puts in one of the greatest performances
in horror movie history as she haunts Adrian Kidd everywhere he goes.
This film scares the dickens out of you because you know the action is just
around the corner, just over the hill or just behind the door. I had to stop
the videotape 3 times to gather myself when the action got too intense. Get
ready for a wild story that continues to frighten up to the very end.
If you want a scare this weekend, check out The Woman in Black.
