Marci X

This is the movie that makes Gigli look like Citizen Kane.

Lisa Kudrow stars as Marci Feld - the blonde, dim-witted, shallow daughter of an ill multi-millionaire corporate kingpin. The family business is at risk when Senator Mary Ellen Spinkle (Christine Baranski) decides to lead a boycott of Feld Industries and hold congressional hearing into their ownership of a rap record album with the world's most controversial rap star, Dr. S (Damon Wayans). He refuses to apologize for his offensive lyrics, but Marci is going to try to get him to change his ways to save the company.

Will Marci be successful?

Marci X is atrocious. Not screened for critics, I wandered over to the movie theater, whipped out my $8.50 and had to endure one of the worst film's to be released in the last several years. I'm a professional and had to be there, but what about the other 10 people in the theater who had to sit through it. Why would they? In a way, we're like war buddies. We've been to hell and back, seen horrors that defy explanation, and lived to tell about it.

Kudrow appeared to be the one member of the Friends cast who was going to have a great movie career, but poor choices have derailed that. She, along with every member of the cast, is forced to soldier on with a horrible script and stupid premise full of stereotypes that died years ago. From Dr. S as the ultimate pimp daddy, to Marci's upper crust, out of touch Manhattanite girlfriends to the heavy handed satire involving a Jennifer Lopez -like character, Marci X stinks. This movie takes place in a world that fantasyland believes is out of touch with reality. It's not funny enough to be a farce, and takes itself too seriously to be considered that type of comedy. Sadly, I think director Richard Benjamin and writer Paul Rudnick honestly believe they are providing entertainment. Instead, they are providing cringe-worthy jokes that should get them booted out of their respective unions. The cast is full of very talented people (Kudrow and Baranski are Emmy winners, Wayans an Emmy nominee, Jane Krakowski is a Tony winner), but none of them are used properly. And what were they thinking when they signed up for this? Sure, they got paid, but not that much.

Even too unrealistic for movies, Marci X is a flop of a film. I pray that someone burns the negative so it will never see the light of day ever again, but that's holding out too much hope. I can't see another movie this year being this bad, but we still have a few months to go.
